I wrote an essay about corporate housing in Tokyo, based on my experience living in four dorms at two Japanese companies.
Two of the dorms were like the ones I mention in the essay. With the other two, the company rented an entire aparment building, so there you had your own place with subsidized rent. There was a dorm mother living there as well, but no more permission sheets.
