I bought my first mahjong manga the other day. It’s called Mudazumo naki Kaikaku – Legend of Koizumi, and it has Prime Minister Koizumi battling Bush Jr. and Sr., Kim Jong Il, and Vladimir Putin at mahjong as “top level meetings”.
This is basically a gag manga, so you have the guys shouting,
“Patriot Missile, I win!” (Bush Jr.)
“Potsdam Declaration, one more and I win!” (Bush Sr.)
“People’s Democracy, one more and I win!” (Kim Jong Il)
Putin’s attack wave is called the “Baltic Fleet”.
And Koizumi’s winning hand is “The Rising Sun”.
I only know the very basic rules of mahjong, but I still had a good time reading it. I think I’d have appreciated the manga more if I understood how rare each of the winning hands are.
