Tatami Mats
The confusing thing about tatami mat sizes is that the size varies depending on where you live. A tatami mat in Kansai is bigger than a tatami mat in Kanto. Thus, a 6-mat in Kansai is equivalent to a 7.1-mat in Kanto!
When I first moved to Tokyo, I did have this strange feeling that room sizes were somehow smaller…I felt like I was being duped when I found about the difference in tatami mat sizes.

The manzai routine here isn’t working because the two are both playing “boke.” Hence the call for Asano-san, who presumably plays “tsukkomi.”
Shinjuku Locations
Mitsuki’s Grandma takes the bus to Otakibashi. There is an Otakibashi street near Shinjuku station that ends at Otakibashi bridge. My Tokyo map shows a temple right near the bridge, so this temple could be the model for the place Meroko’s grave is.
Meinichi
One important day to visit someone’s grave in Buddhism is on the particular day that person died. This day is called meinichi (命日). The particular day of each month, called tsuki-meinichi (月命日), are also important dates. So if someone passed away on Jan. 1st, the meinichi is Jan. 1st, the tsuki-meinichi is the 1st of each month, and you could visit the grave on either days.
