In the original, Shinigami names are written as a combination of hiragana and katakana, whereas their human names are written in kanji. To make a similar distrinction, I made “Takuto Kila” the Shinigami name, and “Takuto Kira” his human name.
It is not uncommon for this to happen in cases of cancer diagnosis. In such cases, the doctor will tell the patient’s family the truth first. If the family decides not to tell the patient about the cancer, the doctor will tell the patient something like “You need an operation for bad stomach ulcer (but it’s actually stomach cancer).” This could result in an intense family conflict later, when the patient realizes they are terminally ill.
